Nautilus coffee table

Inspired by the Nautilus, this beautifully finished coffee table with innovative constructional techniques and creative design has a spiral table top which is closed by glass which also protects wooden table top from damage and spill of coffee or tea. The designer uses a new technique to turn 4000 pieces of walnut and sycamore veneer strips into a 10 mm thick logarithmic spiral. Modern computer aided technology combined with innovative constructional techniques gives this piece its seamless shape. The table has a texture which replicates the outside of the shell, created by hand carving the fluted growth patterns. Inside, a satin sheen has been created which runs smoothly rounded to the chambered area replicated in Japanese lace paper.
It has size of 2000 x 1500 x 450mm.To highlight the detailed shell design, glass was chosen as the top for this coffee table.
